日本語で読む

The report that the leading unit is approaching three times faster than its followers occurs in Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn OVA episode 2, “The Second Coming of Char” (Japanese: “Akai Suisei”). Sercel, a sensor operator aboard the Nahel Argama, reports the approach. The red mobile suit is Sinanju, piloted by Full Frontal.

The Japanese search phrase is 「先頭の1機は後続機の……3倍の速度で接近中!」. English wording in this article is an explanatory translation, not a transcription of an official dub or subtitle track.

Separate the speaker, machine and pilot

Three identities are easily confused in searches. Sercel delivers the report from the receiving ship. Sinanju is the approaching machine, and Full Frontal is its pilot. It is not Char speaking, and it is not Full Frontal announcing his own speed from the cockpit.

Role Name
Reporting operator Sercel, Nahel Argama
Leading mobile suit MSN-06S Sinanju
Pilot Full Frontal
Earlier figure evoked Char, the Red Comet

Which episode contains the scene?

After Banagher and Unicorn are taken aboard the Nahel Argama, a red mobile suit approaches the ship. The report identifies an exceptional leader among several signals, making the speed difference part of the tension around Full Frontal’s entrance. Shochiku’s episode synopsis also identifies this chapter as his arrival in Sinanju.

Use the OVA designation when looking for the scene. The television re-edit, RE:0096, divides the material differently. Its episode 2 is not interchangeable with OVA episode 2.

The earlier “three times normal speed” reference

The scene evokes the approach of Char’s Zaku in the original Mobile Suit Gundam. A red machine, an exceptional approach and the receiving bridge’s alarm bring back the audience’s memory of the Red Comet.

The wording is still worth distinguishing. In this Unicorn report, the leading unit is compared with the following units. Replacing every version with the generic phrase “three times normal speed” obscures the difference between the original series and this particular OVA line.

Does it prove Sinanju’s specifications are three times higher?

No. The report describes an observed approach in a particular situation. It does not, by itself, establish that Sinanju’s maximum speed, thrust or output is three times every comparison machine’s. Current velocity, acceleration, course and piloting can all affect an approach.

Dramatically, the point is that one machine is moving differently enough for its opponents to notice. The report establishes a threat without pausing for a technical specification sheet. Keeping that narrative purpose separate from engineering claims makes the scene easier to read accurately.

Why use a report from the opposing ship?

The viewer encounters the exceptional performance through people who must respond to it. Full Frontal does not need to explain that he resembles Char: the reactions around him and the visual language of the red machine do that work. The old legend and the present danger become linked before a full explanation arrives.

Frequently asked questions

Is the line spoken by Char?

The Unicorn line discussed here is a report from the Nahel Argama. It is neither Char’s dialogue nor Full Frontal boasting. It deliberately recalls the earlier Red Comet imagery.

Is the red machine Sazabi?

It is Sinanju. When choosing merchandise, distinguish it from Sazabi and from the predominantly white Sinanju Stein.
