The original Mobile Suit Gundam television opening is “Tobe! Gundam,” and its ending is “Eien ni Amuro,” both sung by Koh Ikeda. “Ai Senshi” and “Meguriai” belong to the theatrical trilogy, not later television opening or ending slots. This guide separates the two TV themes, the film songs and other insert songs.
The original television opening and ending
These are the original television performances. Later covers and concert recordings can be valuable alternatives, but they should not be labelled as the 1979 broadcast singers. Japanese titles are included so that international readers can match Japanese CD listings.
Major songs from the three compilation films
The film songs are not mid-series replacements for the television OP and ED. Their placement follows the longer dramatic arc of each film. Ai Senshi and Meguriai offer a useful contrast: the former draws attention towards people caught in battle, while the latter can be heard through encounters, separation and loss.
Product classifications also matter. King Records lists Beginning and Meguriai as film insert songs on Best of Gundam. Calling the table “major film songs” avoids pretending that every track is formally an opening or ending.
Beyond the OP and ED
Char ga Kuru, Kirameki no Lalah and Ima wa Oyasumi provide further routes into the television story. Song collections and instrumental soundtrack albums serve different purposes. A larger track count does not automatically mean that a release includes the particular vocal recording you want.

The embedded recording is credited to Koh Ikeda. It is a distributed audio track, not the television ending animation. Regional availability can vary; use the release number and track list when comparing physical editions.
A practical first CD: KICA-2016
Best of Gundam is a single eleven-track CD covering the television themes and songs from the trilogy. Check the catalogue number KICA-2016: it is not a SEED compilation, a new cover collection or a multi-disc instrumental box.
