If you have no room to display every completed Gunpla, choose a smaller selection and rotate the rest into storage. Setting a display limit and giving models and accessories separate homes can make the collection easier to manage before you add more furniture.
This guide uses existing shelves and boxes. It does not require drilling rental walls or modifying furniture. The diagram illustrates an organisation method.
Measure the usable shelf and choose what to show
Check width, depth, clearance above, doors and your normal viewing angle. Extending wings and weapons beyond the shelf to fit more models increases the chance of contact or a fall.
Choose the models you want to feature and give them space first. Capacity depends on the model and its pose; there is no reliable number of HG kits that fits every shelf.

Separate display from rotation storage
- On display: keep the current selection in stable poses.
- Ready for rotation: store the next models where you can retrieve them without loading fragile projections.
- Accessories: label spare hands, weapons and adapters by kit.
You do not need a rigid rotation schedule. Reviewing the selection after a new build or during cleaning can be enough to reduce the pressure to display everything permanently.
Check removable equipment before storing a completed model
Arrange storage so long weapons and antennas cannot be struck by other objects. Where the instructions show a removable connection, separating equipment may help. Do not force disassembly: glue, paint and joint condition can change what is appropriate.
If you use padding, check that it does not bend parts or adhere to painted surfaces. Stacked boxes should transfer weight through their structure rather than through the model. Avoid unsuitable heat, moisture and direct sunlight.
Label accessories with the kit they belong to
Similar hands and stand adapters become difficult to identify as a collection grows. Label bags or compartments with the kit name, grade and, where useful, the part number. Keep the connection with the instruction manual clear.
Do not force delicate clear parts into a compartment with heavy equipment. If you retain kit boxes, decide where manuals and unused parts belong. If you discard a box, first consider which product and support information you need to keep.
A small-storage example: WAVE HG Multi Storage Case
The manufacturer lists HT440 at 165 × 105 × 49 mm internally and 172 × 113 × 58 mm externally. It uses a sliding lid and is designed to stack with the same product.
This is not a tall display case for an upright HG Gunpla. The letters “HG” in its name do not guarantee that every High Grade kit fits. Compare the dimensions with the model lying down or with the accessories you intend to store. Equipment may need to be separated, and fit is not guaranteed for a complete model.
Before adding another shelf
- Keep walkways and doors clear.
- Include cases and bases in the shelf’s weight limit.
- Avoid unstable models on high surfaces or shelf edges.
- Leave enough access for safe cleaning.
For an enclosed display, distinguish external size from usable internal dimensions. A floating stand does not automatically save space: its arm and footprint count too.
Frequently asked questions
Is it wasteful not to display every completed kit?
There is no requirement to show everything at once. A favourite selection or a series-based rotation can make the collection easier to enjoy and maintain.
Can I use any small storage box?
Check shape, internal dimensions, the lid’s movement and how weight reaches the contents. A name or external measurement alone cannot establish a safe fit.
