“Obiero! Sukume!” — rendered here as “Tremble! Cower!” — is Norris Packard’s line during the Gouf Custom battle in episode 10, “The Shuddering Mountain, Part I,” of Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team. This is the OVA series, not episode 10 of the original Gundam TV show. English wording differs by release; this article explains the Japanese phrase.

What does sukume mean?

Sukumu describes freezing or shrinking back through fear. Combined with obiero, the command has the force of a threat intended to unnerve an opponent. The line is memorable because the veteran pilot’s actions support the confidence in his voice.

The battle is not explained by bravado alone. Norris reads movement and terrain and acts with a specific objective. Looking at those decisions is more rewarding than reducing the episode to a weapon count or a simple strongest-pilot ranking.

Norris has a mission beyond winning a duel

As the Federation attacks the Zeon base, Norris fights to help Aina and the others escape. That objective explains why removing a particular threat can matter more than defeating the opponent directly in front of him.

His confrontation with Shiro’s Ez8 is a major attraction, but the larger purpose should not disappear behind it. The official character profile connects his loyalty to the Sahalin family with covering the Kerguelen’s withdrawal.

Why the Gouf Custom and the city work so well together

The left-arm gatling shield, heat wire and close-combat blade offer different ways to control an encounter. Buildings interrupt sight lines, while movement and changes of facing create uncertainty. The setting makes Norris’s decisions visible rather than leaving the battle as an exchange of shots.

Our original illustration evokes the city and the machine’s equipment. Its building layout and action are not a frame-accurate tactical reconstruction. Use the episode itself if you want to trace every move in sequence.

Gouf Custom is not Ramba Ral’s Gouf

Norris and Ramba Ral are different characters in different productions. The well-known ‘This is no Zaku’ line belongs to Ral; this article concerns Norris and the MS-07B-3. Check the Custom designation when shopping, since a standard Gouf is not the same machine.

Likewise, an HGUC kit, an MG kit and a finished action figure are different product formats. Compare scale, included weapons and assembly requirements. A card also needs a game name and number; the character’s name alone does not identify a specific edition.
