Char’s line “Mieru zo, watashi ni mo teki ga mieru” comes from episode 42, “Space Fortress A Baoa Qu,” of the original Mobile Suit Gundam television series. Piloting the Zeong against Amuro’s Gundam, Char voices his growing confidence that he can perceive the enemy. The scene concerns Newtype perception rather than ordinary eyesight. The English rendering here is an explanatory translation, not a claim about a particular licensed subtitle or dub.

What does Char mean by seeing the enemy?
The opponent is Amuro, whose abilities have developed throughout the war. Char is expressing a sense that he can locate and respond to this enemy, beyond a routine visual sighting. Treating Newtype perception as simply better eyesight or a stronger radar misses the point of the scene.
The Japanese phrase watashi ni mo — roughly, ‘I too’ — also matters. It suggests the tension of Char measuring himself against another pilot’s ability. That is an interpretation of the wording, not proof that the two pilots have become exactly equal or that Char has won the battle.
Watch the Zeong as well as its pilot
The legless Zeong uses detachable, wire-guided beam-gun hands. Its unusual attack directions make the relationship between perception and piloting especially striking. Watching only the main body can obscure how the machine threatens an opponent.
Our illustration presents the Zeong and its wired hand weapons in an original composition. It is not an official animation frame, a shot-for-shot reconstruction or a technical model of Newtype senses.

Not the mechanic’s line about the legs
The famous remark usually paraphrased as ‘the legs are just for show’ belongs to a mechanic before the sortie. Char’s statement about perceiving the enemy concerns the subsequent battle. Both are associated with TV episode 42, but they have different speakers and different meanings.
For merchandise, distinguish Char’s original-series appearance from Quattro’s outfit and the later commander in Char’s Counterattack. A Sazabi, a red Zaku and a Zeong all connect to Char, but they are not interchangeable representations of this particular scene.
Quick answers
Is this a movie episode number? No. Episode 42 identifies the television version; the compilation films do not use that numbering.
Does the line confirm Char has surpassed Amuro? No. It conveys Char’s immediate experience. A definitive ranking of their abilities would require a wider discussion of the story.
