The Gundam Unicorn OVA has seven episode theme songs. Its television re-edit, Gundam Unicorn RE:0096, adds a regular opening and two ending themes. Keeping the two versions in separate tables is more useful than forcing every track into one TV-style OP/ED list.
Aimer’s “RE:I AM” and “StarRingChild” originate as OVA themes and also have special television uses. A song heard in the TV edit is not automatically its regular opening. Identify the version and episode as well as the tune.
OVA episode 1–7 theme songs
Each OVA episode has its own theme. These are not seven sequential TV opening songs.
| OVA episode | Song | Performer |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 流星のナミダ | CHiAKi KURiYAMA(栗山千明) |
| 2 | Everlasting | Kylee |
| 3 | merry-go-round | CHEMISTRY |
| 4 | B-Bird | earthmind |
| 5 | BROKEN MIRROR | BOOM BOOM SATELLITES |
| 6 | RE:I AM | Aimer |
| 7 | StarRingChild | Aimer |
When buying recordings, distinguish the single recording, movie edit and live version. A familiar title does not guarantee identical content.
The three regular RE:0096 themes
The television version uses SawanoHiroyuki[nZk] songs with different featured vocalists. Including the vocalist in a search helps distinguish the tracks.
| Use | Song | Artist credit |
|---|---|---|
| OP | Into the Sky | SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]:Tielle |
| 前期ED / early ending | Next 2 U -eUC- | SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]:naNami |
| 後期ED / later ending | bL∞dy f8 -eUC- | SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]:Aimer |
Where do RE:I AM and StarRingChild fit?
“RE:I AM” is the OVA episode 6 theme and becomes the special opening in RE:0096 episode 18. “StarRingChild” is the episode 7 theme and also the ending used for the final TV episode, number 22. These are reused songs with more than one placement, not additional newly composed tracks.
That is why a count of placements and a count of distinct songs can give different totals. The tables describe each track once, with its exceptions explained here.
UNICORN and RX-0 belong to the score
If you remember an instrumental crescendo rather than singing, an opening/ending list may be the wrong catalogue. “UNICORN” and “RX-0” are soundtrack-side starting points.
Choose a theme compilation for the vocal themes, and a named soundtrack volume for the score. Neither label guarantees that it contains everything heard in the other category.
Official music videos and audio
The following are artist/label uploads. They are not presented as complete anime episodes or necessarily the exact TV opening footage. Start only the track you want and check your volume.
RE:I AM — official audio (a Music Premium restriction may apply)
StarRingChild — Aimer official music video
Into the Sky — SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]:Tielle official music video
Choosing a CD: compilation, EP or soundtrack
RE:0096 COMPLETE BEST combines the three TV themes and seven OVA themes. The extra disc in SECL-2051–2052 contains live material; it does not mean that the television series has another sixteen original theme songs.
The OVA compilation, Aimer’s individual EPs, Into the Sky EP and the soundtrack albums serve different purposes. Check catalogue numbers, regular versus limited editions, discs and extras, and used-item completeness. A Japanese-shop photograph does not establish the condition of an Amazon offer.
| What you want | What to compare |
|---|---|
| OVA and TV vocal themes | RE:0096 COMPLETE BEST; theme disc versus live bonus disc |
| An individual Aimer single | RE:I AM EP or StarRingChild EP and their edition-specific extras |
| The TV project’s three themes | Into the Sky EP track listing |
| Instrumental scene music | The correct original soundtrack volume and track |
