Spoilers for character identities across both Gundam 00 TV seasons.

“Neraiutsu ze” is Lockon Stratos’s signature shooting line in Mobile Suit Gundam 00. The original Lockon is Neil Dylandy; the second-season Lockon is his twin brother Lyle. Both are voiced in Japanese by Shinichiro Miki.

It communicates confidence with very few words. Remembering whose confidence we are hearing also matters. Neil’s role as the team’s reassuring older figure does not protect him from his own grief.

What does “Neraiutsu ze” mean?

「狙い撃つぜ!」

Lockon Stratos, Mobile Suit Gundam 00

“Neraiutsu” means taking aim and shooting at a target. The informal ending “ze” gives it a bold, conversational sound. An explanatory rendering is “I’ll take the shot.” Another, more interpretive option is “I’ll make it count.” Neither is presented here as the wording of a specific official English dub.

This is a character catchphrase rather than a long speech tied only to one setting. MegaHouse’s official introduction to its Neil figure explicitly pairs the line with his familiar aiming pose. The useful question is not only when it is said, but which Lockon and which part of the story you mean.

Neil and Lyle are two different people

Lockon Stratos is an operational name. The official Neil profile describes a highly skilled marksman and the caring senior member of the Gundam Meister team. His easy manner helps other people relax around him.

Lyle’s profile concerns his twin brother, who later takes up the same name. The shared face, actor and code name do not make Lyle a resurrection of Neil. He has his own choices and relationships.

This distinction is especially helpful when shopping. A product labelled “Lockon” may depict a different man, season or pilot suit from the one you remember. Check whether the description identifies Neil or Lyle before relying on the name alone.

Confidence, care and unresolved pain

Neil makes difficult work sound manageable. His brief line offers something like an assurance to his teammates: they can depend on his skill. Its casual delivery makes the competence feel established rather than theatrical.

Yet he is not emotionally untouched by combat. His family’s loss in a terrorist attack is central to his participation in Celestial Being. The wish to end conflict and the desire to answer a personal wound can pull in different directions.

That tension is our reading of the character, rather than a claim that the catchphrase has one hidden official definition. The dependable person who steadies others may still struggle when facing his own grief. Knowing the familiar confidence makes those moments of vulnerability more consequential.

All three are green Gundams associated with the Lockon name, but they are not interchangeable versions of one product. Dynames is the clearest starting point when the person you mean is Neil.

A related kit: HG 1/144 Gundam Dynames

Our selection is the standard-colour BANDAI SPIRITS HG 1/144 Dynames. It is a model of Neil’s mobile suit, not an item printed with the quote. Its sniper silhouette gives the connection to his role an immediate visual focus.

Check the scale and edition. The MG 1/100 kit, Trans-Am colour versions and GN Arms bundles are different products. This HG is an assembly kit rather than a ready-made figure; our beginner tools guide helps with the practical side of starting a build.

Frequently asked questions

Is Lockon the same person in both seasons?

No. Neil is the first-season Lockon and Lyle is the brother who takes up the name later. Their shared Japanese voice actor is Shinichiro Miki.

Why is the Japanese written 撃つ rather than 打つ?

撃つ is the character used for shooting in this context. Both can be read “utsu,” which helps explain why alternate spellings appear in searches.

Should a newcomer start with the second season?

Starting with season1 makes the inheritance of the name easier to understand. It lets Neil’s story stand on its own before you follow what Lyle does with the same role.
